History
The involvement of the Worzella family in the lumber business dates back to the early 1900’s
when Joseph Worzella, Sr. built a sawmill on his farm west of Stevens Point, WI. Fascinated by
the sawmill business, Joseph, Jr. went to work at larger sawmills in Wisconsin and Canada.
After his marriage to Mary, they moved to Milwaukee where he  worked in construction until
the late 1930’s, when he decided to go into the logging business .  The  hardwood logs were
mostly harvested in the 5 county area, and shipped by rail or truck to Richardson Brothers in
Sheboygan Falls, Cooley in West Bend, and The Quirk Company in Cudahy.

In 1946, Joseph and his sons started their own sawmill on Woods Road in Franklin, WI; sales
being mostly to industrial and  millwork accounts.  When Joseph retired in 1959, his son,
James  and wife, Elaine purchased the business.  Unable to expand at this location because of
zoning, they moved the sawmill to a 10 acres site on Ryan Road and South 51st street in
Franklin in 1964.  As the supply of logs dwindled, the family expanded the business to
include softwood lumber and building materials, finally discontinuing the sawmill operations
in the early 1980’s.  This ten acre site became part of a 400 acre business park, purchased by
the City of Franklin in 1992.

The relocation to our new facility at 80th and Ryan Road was completed in April of 1996. After
the death of James Worzella in 1999, control of the company was turned over to the sons,
Joseph and Dennis.

The successful operation of  Worzella Lumber is based on quality lumber and building
materials, as well as friendly, helpful service.  Let our experienced staff help you with your
